Lake Hillier is located on Middle Island, an island in the Recherche Archipelago group located off the southern coast of Western Australia
Lake Hillier is not a man-made lake. The color of the water is not a reflection either. You can prove it by taking water from the lake, then put it in a place. The water color will not change. Some researchers can not confirm the origin of the color of the lake. Even so, there are researchers who claim that the original color of the lake is produced by the Dunaliella salina and Halobacteria organisms found there. Others, however, believe that the pink color comes from the red halophilic bacteria that live in the salt crust.
The Discovery of Lake Hiller
Lake Hiller, which contrasts with the blue and green surrounding it, was discovered by British navigator and hydrographer Matthew Flinder. In 1802, in connection with his work, Flinder made an ascent to the highest peak on Middle Island to observe the surrounding waters. Arriving at the top of Middle Island, later known as Flinder Peak, he came across Lake Hillier. Due to the location and contrasting colors in the middle of the wilderness, Flinder could see it clearly. westernaustralia.com
