The Republic of Tanzania is a beautiful country located in the eastern part of Africa. It has a tropical climate, formerly known as Tanganyika, because in Tanzania there is a very famous lake, Lake Tangayika.
Located 340 km south of the equator, Mount Kilimanjaro is one of three eternally snow-capped mountains at the equator, along with Puncak Jaya in Indonesia and Cayambe in Ecuador. As a major object in Tanzania and a symbol of East African countries, in 1973, the Kilimanjaro area was made a National Park, and in 1987 Kilimanjaro National Park (KINAPA) was recognized as a World Natural Heritage by the United Nations. Currently, the Kilimanjaro area with Kibo Peak (5,895 m above sea level) as the highest roof of the African continent, is visited by more than 35,000 people every year.
Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano that is now dormant, but has fumaroles that emit gas in the crater located on the main summit of Kibo. In Tanzania, the peak of Kibo is known as the Uhuru Peak. In 2003, German volcanologist Volker Lorenz estimated that molten magma was beneath the crater surface at a depth of 121.9 meters (400 feet).
Various facilities of accommodation, access, security, and the services of professional guides, enable more and more people to enjoy this increasingly rare natural beauty. Kilimanjaro as a world natural heritage is improving itself and in the last 4 years, tourist visits have increased more than three times.
Being a guide is the dream of many Chagga people who live around the foot of Kilimanjaro. It took more than five years to become head guide, with the highest rewards. With 2-3 years of experience as a porter for physical forging, 2 years of on-the-job training as a guide assistant, until finally the KINAPA test for guide certification.
Welfare of guides and porters is still an important issue. The big profits are still mostly absorbed by the tourist operators who live in urban areas. The completeness of climbing equipment and proper clothing cannot always be fulfilled. Until many suffer from illness and even death.
Africa's tallest tree is also found in the Kilimanjaro region. This discovery immediately made the local government expect more tourists to come to the Mount Kilimanjaro area.
The giant tree with the Latin name Enandrophragma excelsum stands tall and is 81.5 meters tall. This tree was discovered last year by Dr Andreas Hemp and Dr Claudia Hemp from the University of Bayreuth in Germany. This tree is estimated to be between 500 and 600 years old. It is the sixth tallest tree in the world and it is likely that it will continue to grow. Meanwhile, the world's tallest tree is located in California with a height of 115.7 meters.
Kilimanjaro as one of "The Big Seven" the highest mountain on every continent in the world encourages the Government of Tanzania to improve itself.
