Facts about Kangaroo Island Australia, a Small Island with Various Tourist Destinations

As a large country, Australia has many tourist destinations. An example is Tasmania, which is one of the most popular islands and is visited by many tourists.

Kangaroo Island, located eight miles off the coast of South Australia, and 30 minutes by plane from Adelaide, is one of the best places in Australia to see native animals, such as kangaroos, koalas, sea lions and seals. With superb geology, and easily accessible local food and drink, Kangaroo Island is a great place for a self-drive vacation.

Initially, Kangaroo Island was incorporated into mainland Australia, and was inhabited by the indigenous people of the area, namely the Aboriginal people. However, thousands of years ago there was a rise in sea levels that resulted in the separation of the island.

Evidence of Aboriginal life can be seen from the objects left behind, such as: tools made of stones, or the rest of the garbage heap. Rising sea levels have made the lives of indigenous people disappear and are not recorded in the archaeological record.

The island was eventually inhabited by settlers who sailed in the 19th century. Since then, the economy on Kangaroo Island has started to develop.

The island offers a variety of beautiful coastlines, scattered steep cliffs, and stunning geological attractions. You can splash the waves at Vivonne Bay and Pennington Bay. Swim in the tide pools at Stokes Bay, and relax on the sands of Nepean Bay. Try fishing and kayaking the American and Chapman rivers. Antechamber Bay is a lush retreat with lagoons and sand dunes. In D'Estrees Bay, dive among shipwrecked wrecks and see harlequin fish, sea dragons and brightly colored coral.

Access to this island is fairly easy. Since 2017, Qantaslink has been providing direct flight routes to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide and Melbourne. However, these flight schedules are not available every day.

During the peak summer season, the airline operates five flights a week from Adelaide. After Easter, flights are reduced to just three times a week, and only twice a week in December through January.

There are many kinds of plants that are cultivated on Kangaroo Island, which also serves as a support for the economy of the community on the island. These include wheat, grapes, potatoes, and canola. Besides animal husbandry, agriculture and fisheries, the tourism sector also plays an important role. Kangaroo Island is visited by more than 180,000 tourists annually.

Kangaroo Island is one of South Australia's favorite tourist destinations, especially for nature lovers. Travelers can enjoy the beauty of Kangaroo Island by visiting Seal Bay Conservational Park, which is home to Australia's sea lions, or visiting Flinders Chase National Park, which has a variety of endangered animals.

Travelers can also visit the Murray Lagoon to witness firsthand the life of various types of birds.
In addition to seeing various natural beauty and animal life, you can also stop by Little Sahara which has a vast expanse of sand dunes.
