Zhangye Danxia, China's Natural Tourism Paradise
China is one of the countries that has many interesting tours. Starting from the Great Wall of China which has been known to the world, Terracotta Troops, Tian Tan, to The Bund. All of these tourist spots have successfully attracted tourists.
Likewise, natural tourism that this country has. There is a tourist spot that is beautiful and also charming. This nature excursion is called Zhangye Danxia, which is famous for its rainbow mountains. Of course, the natural attractions here are different from the others, because not all mountains have a variety of colors.
This rainbow mountain has an area of 300 square kilometers and is part of the Zhangye Danxia Landform Geological Park in Gansu province, China.
This mountain looks like an expanse of colorful flags. Its hills and valleys are made up of layers of red, blue, emerald green, brown, and yellow. However, there were no plants or animals to be found due to the barren soil conditions.
This natural phenomenon is an example of petrographic geomorphology formed by environmental conditions. The stunning colors of the hills come from the red sandstone and minerals formed during the Cretaceous Period 24 million years ago.
These rock formations then underwent a shift in tectonic plates which also formed the Himalayas. The rains and winds that hit the area for millions of years have also contributed to the shaping of the niches, valleys, and color patterns of Mount Zhangye Danxia. This mountain also displays different colors, depending on weather conditions at that time. Well, if you visit in winter and summer, of course, you will get different color views.
Zhangye Danxia also has caves hidden behind hills. Due to its unique natural conditions, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee included this mountain in the list of World Heritage Sites in 2010.
When this mountain was first discovered by the public through photos circulating in cyberspace, many thought that the rainbow pattern was the result of computer engineering. Now Zhangye Danxia is becoming one of the most sought after tourist attractions in China, generating a fairly high income for Zhangye residents. Local residents also took the initiative to build roads so that visitors could more easily access the hills.
