Jacarandas Walk, The Most Beautiful Aisle in South Africa
Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa, is famous for being home to the world's largest artificial forest. There are more than 10 million trees there, and give the city a natural fresh green atmosphere.
In Johannesburg, at least there are more than 10 million trees which make the city a green city. There are at least 49 species of Jacaranda trees, most of which are native to South America (especially Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Argentina), and the Caribbean. Those tropical trees were imported to South Africa, more than one hundred years ago.
The Jacarandas Walk is the largest artificial forest in the world, there are 10 million trees planted in one of these South African cities. And the most beautiful of all the trees is the jacarandas tree which has purple flowers and will look stunning when spring comes. Just like the tree tunnel in Ballynoe, this beautiful tourist spot in South Africa, known as the Jacarandas Walk, is no less beautiful.
With a length of 3 km, this naturally formed tunnel lies on a railroad track.
However, the trains that pass through this line are not passenger trains, but wooden transport trains that run three times a day according to schedule.
There is a local belief that the wishes and hopes of couples who walk through this romantic tunnel will be fulfilled.
Johannesburg's first Jacaranda tree was planted at Doornfontein (according to the 1945 edition of The Star). The same article states that William Nelson, owner of the Nelsonia Nursery, planted 30 million trees, shrubs and plants in 1896, many of which were Jacaranda trees. Nelson is also said to have planted more than 62 miles of trees along the streets of the Johannesburg suburb of what is now Kensington. (theculturetrip.com)
Jacaranda mimosifolia is not a native plant of South Africa, it was introduced from Brazil to South Africa in 1829.
Some of the oldest Jacarandas in Pretoria can be found around Bosman and Cilliers Streets, where some of the first Jacaranda trails were planted. There are also claims that the largest and oldest Jacaranda in Pretoria can be found at the corner of Eastwood and Stanza Bopape (old Church Street).
