The location of the Derawan Islands is in Berau District, East Kalimantan. But you can pass from two main gates: through Tarakan or Berau. So it's up to you whether you want to linger on the plane or speedboat. Both promise ease and efficiency in terms of time and cost.

By Land
For the land route, it is often used by local tourists who live on the island of Kalimantan. Usually they will prefer to use the bus or rental car. You can also use this route after arriving in East Kalimantan and then continuing the journey to Derawan Island. The trip can be started from the city of Palangkaraya-Banjarmasin-Balikpapan-Samarinda-Tanjung Radeb-Tanjung Batu, and finally on Derawan Island.

Airway
For tourists who come from outside the island of Borneo or outside Indonesia, of course it will be very easy to use the air route and arrive at Derawan Island. After landing in Balikpapan by plane, continue the journey through Berau / Tarakan, and then cross to the destination island by using a Speed Boat.

If you choose the Berau route, from Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan, you will continue by plane to Berau. Then from Kalimarau Airport, continue by car to Tanjung Redeb, the capital of Berau, about 2 hours. Then from there, it is continued by speedboat for 30 minutes.
