In 1903, Tokuma Tomita, a man from Fukui, worked on a 230-hectare land, and began planting lavender seeds, so that hundreds of lavenders appeared, which were like purple blankets and covered the land. Since then lavender has become famous in Hokkaido, to be precise in the city of Furano which is the city where Tomita Farm is located.
