The Old Temple Of Athena Acropolis

The Acropolis of Athens, Greece

Athens is the capital of Greece, and is one of the popular tourist sites in the Mediterranean region. Athens is the heart of Greece that holds a variety of beauty and history from the 5th century, one of the world's oldest civilizations. There are many unique places to enjoy in Athens, from historical sites to entertainment to unwind. Athens can also be a quiet and romantic location for a honeymoon or holiday with friends or family.

Old Temple of Athena Acropolis

There are many beautiful historical sites in Athens, but the Acropolis of Athens is the greatest ancient landmark in Greece. The location is a kind of shrine for the ancient Greeks to worship their gods and goddesses. Acropolis of Athens is a temple to worship the Goddess Athena.

The ruins of this temple are located on the highest hill in Athens. Not only enjoying the majesty of the temple which is still quite intact, we can also get the best spot to see the beauty of the city of Athens from this height.
At night, the Acropolis of Athens can also be seen from afar with dramatic and artistic lighting. This place is a location that is too bad if you miss it on a visit to one of the oldest cities in the world.

Even the most seasoned world traveler cannot approach this most iconic attraction of ancient Greece without being blown away. With a dramatic limestone crown, the Acropolis stands high above modern Athens as a symbol of the grandeur of a city, recalling a culture that flourished over two millennia ago. Apart from the Parthenon, you'll find even more to do among the ancient ruins of this symbol. While wandering around the many archaeological remains of the Acropolis, tourists like you can follow in the footsteps of Socrates, Pericles, and Sophocles and discover the building blocks of Western Civilization.

Before entering the ticket reception area from the Acropolis, tourists can visit the Odeon Herodes Atticus. This ancient theater is named after Herod Atticus of Marathon (outside Athens), who built it in memory of his wife Regilla in AD 161. The theater was designed with an auditorium fitted into a natural opening. The half row of seats can accommodate almost 5,000 people.

The orchestra is located in the north room in the middle with a low stage (on one side). Between the auditorium and the stage is an open passage for choir or parody entrance. Live performances are still held at this theater during the summer. It is the Athens & Epidaurus Festival which features classical Greek opera as well as musical performances, which offers a magical experience of watching two thousand year old plays in an original theatre.

One of the iconic sites in Athens, Greece called the Acropolis will be more accessible to tourists because the relevant parties are currently building a new elevator and updating the path for the disabled. According to Lonely Planet, the ancient fort which is located on a hill makes it a challenge to access.

Even though there is an elevator there, sometimes the tools don't work. The path around the Acropolis was quite eroded. Now, a new elevator is available at the north side of the hill. The concrete path has also been replaced with a cobblestone path that stretches nearly 530 meters with a width of nearly four meters. Previously, concrete paths have existed since the 1960s. However, the trail has been damaged by the frequent crossing of millions of tourists over the years.

The initiative to improve the route to the Acropolis was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Thursday (12/3/2020). Meanwhile, this was carried out to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This initiative is funded by the Onassis Foundation—a private organization whose aim is to promote Greek culture. “By installing a platform for wheelchairs in the elevator, we are also solving a practical but also symbolic problem,” said Onassis Foundation President Antonis Papadimitriou.

The construction of a wheelchair platform on the lift is their attempt to emphasize the importance of access for everyone. "We also repaired the lighting of the Acropolis in honor of the monument, and the archaeologists who protected it," Papadimitriou said.
